Additional Information
The Grand Theatre’s High School Project is unique to North America. The fall High School Project is a musical theatre production, staged in our 839-seat main stage theatre. The spring High School Project is a play, staged in our 150-seat McManus Studio Theatre. Some students hone their performance skills on stage or in the orchestra, while others learn skills in areas of stage management, wardrobe, props, scenic art, sound, lighting, assistant directing, and photography under the guidance of professional coaches and mentors both on stage and behind the scenes. London and area secondary students are all welcome to audition or interview. Once a student company is selected, a rigorous rehearsal and production schedule begins over 8 weeks after school hours. The performance schedule extends the learning process begun in rehearsal. The students now have the experience of performing onstage or working with the theatre’s crew, operating boards and equipment, calling cues, while learning about the stamina and discipline required to do a show night after night. They also experience the joy of a creative process and thrill of recognition from the audience. The High School Project offers an exceptional opportunity to receive free education and training in the working environment of a professional theatre, thanks to the generous sponsorship by London Canadian Tire Associate Dealers, TVDSB, and LDCSB.
